The wait is finally over for the big Vinland Saga season 2 announcement and did it deliver!
The announcement, which was released this morning if you were in the USA, included a new Vinland Saga Season 2 PV trailer for the series. The video was also released on the anime’s official Twitter as well.
The trailer gave fans a sneak peek of what to expect from the series, as well as some important information! One of the biggest takeaways was the confirmed studio change from Wit Studio to Studio MAPPA. New and returning cast members were released as well.
However, the most exciting reveal from the Vinland Saga 2 Trailer announcement of a January 2023 premiere!
It looks like fans of the Vinland Saga franchise will not have to wait too long to see its return!
Is a Vinland Saga studio change bad?
When it comes to anime, uncertainty about the future of a series can be stressful but a studio change isn’t necessarily a bad sign. If anything it can be a positive one.
Many anime followers will remember when Attack on Titan announced its switch from Wit Studio to MAPPA for its “final” season. It seems Vinland Saga is following the exact same blueprint. The final season was well received by fans, pulling in an impressive 8.84 on MyAnimeList. This is second only to AoT Season 3 Part 2 of the series which has a 9.07 rating.
Other popular series that have seen positive results from changing studios include Hunter x Hunter, Fruits Basket, My Teen Romantic Comedy Snafu, and Fate/Stay Night Unlimited Balde Works.
At the same time, there have been instances where a studio is detrimental to a series’ success. Popular animes like Seven Deadly Sins have been ridiculed for changing studios between seasons and the quality has suffered for it.
Let’s hope this is not the case with Vinland Saga 2.
What Vinland Saga Season 2 cast members were announced?
If you watched season one of Vinland Saga, you may be wondering if the same actors will be reprising their roles. Luckily, even though it’s been several years, it has been confirmed in the new Vinland Saga 2 trailer and on the official website that several major actors will be returning to the anime!
Yuto Uemura will reprise his role as Thorfinn, the main character of the show. It was also confirmed that Kensho Ono will return as Canute, and Akio Ootsuka will return as Thorkill.
Several new cast and characters have also been revealed including Einar, who will be voiced by Shunsuke Takeuchi. Mayumi Sako will play a new character named Arnheid. Fuminori Komatsu will play Snake. Yuu Hayashi will voice Olmar and Taiten Kusunoki will voice Thorgil.
With so many other new characters to expect and exciting new clips in the PV video, fans should have plenty to help hold them over until January!
