Vermeil in Gold Season 2 release date predictions

The Vermeil in Gold Season 2 anime will have Alto Goldfilled, Lilia Kudelfate, and the titular demon Vermeil go on a mission with the Ortigia Academy of Magic’s Student Council to the religious state of Antrea. But when will Kinsou no Vermeil Season 2 come out?

It should be noted that the full title for the anime will be Vermeil in Gold: A Desperate Magician Barges Into the Magical World Alongside the Strongest Calamity! Season 2 (Kinsou no Vermeil: Gakeppuchi Majutsushi wa Saikyou no Yakusai to Mahou Sekai wo Tsukisusumu Season 2). But since typing that all out leaves us kinda breathless we’ll just stick with Vermeil in Gold Season 2.

The studio and main staff making Vermeil in Gold Season 2 haven’t been announced yet.

For the first season, the anime project was produced by Japanese animation company Studio Staple Entertainment. Haven’t heard of them before? They’re a relatively new company that had previously only provided production assistance for other studios. However, they’ve worked on small parts of big names such as Mushoku Tensei, Godzilla Singular Point, and That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

Before producing the Vermeil in Gold ecchi anime, their first big standalone project was 3 Seconds Later, He Turned Into a Beast, which was straight-up hentai. Based on this history, it makes sense that they were picked for the Vermeil in Gold anime project.

The first season of the Vermeil in Gold anime project was helmed by director Takashi Naoya (3D Girlfriend, Osamake: Romcom Where The Childhood Friend Won’t Lose, Val x Love). Assistant director Matsuo Asami was also the assistant director for Osamake and 3D Girlfriend.

Writer Tatsuya Takahashi created the series composition. The writer is known for working on Beatless, Domestic Girlfriend, Eromanga-sensei, The Faraway Paladin Season 2, Highschool of the Dead, I’ve Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level Season 2, Wise Man’s Grandchild, Rewrite, and World’s End Harem.

Artists Kiyoshi Tateishi (Alice in Deadly School, Val x Love) and Ayana Togashi (DanMachi, The World’s Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat) were the character designers. Composers Ken Itou (High School DxD Season 2, I’m Standing on a Million Lives Season 2) and Kenichi Kuroda (World’s Finest Assassin, The Saint’s Magic Power is Omnipotent Season 2) created the music.

The Vermeil in Gold Season 2 OP (opening) and ED (ending) theme song music hasn’t been announced yet.

For the first season, the Vermeil in Gold OP “Abracada-Boo” was by Kaori Ishihara, while the ED “Mortal With You” was by Mili.

The first season of Vermeil in Gold was exclusively streaming in Summer 2022 with English subtitles on HIDIVE (not Crunchyroll, VRV, Disney+, Netflix, Hulu, Funimation, or Amazon Prime Video).

The first season’s finale, Vermeil in Gold Episode 12, will release on September 20, 2022.

The 12 episodes were released as a single Vermeil in Gold Blu-Ray volume on November 9, 2022.

This article provides everything that is known about Vermeil in Gold Season 2 (Kinsou no Vermeil Season 2) and all related news. As such, this article will be updated over time with news, rumors, and analysis. Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.

Kinsou no Vermeil Season 2 release date predictions: Long wait necessary

As of the last update, Square Enix, Toei Video, Studio Staple Entertainment, or any company related to the production of the anime has not officially confirmed the Vermeil in Gold Season 2 release date. Nor has the production of a Vermeil in Gold 2 sequel been announced.

Once the news is officially confirmed this article will be updated with the relevant information.

In the meantime, it’s possible to speculate about when, or if, the Kinsou no Vermeil Season 2 release date will occur in the future.

The Vermeil in Gold reviews have been giving out average scores at best. The problem is that the story suffers from an overly nice protagonist who seemingly doesn’t possess (at first) any overarching goals or motivations beyond becoming a generic hero for no reason at all. Sure, he wants to become a Platinum Square, which is a similar motivation to Black Clover’s Asta wanting to become Wizard King, but there needs to be something more than that to hold the anime fandom’s interest.

The initial plot twist is that Alto possesses very strong magic so despite being studious he wrongly thinks he’s bad at summoning a familiar when the reality is that no familiar will heed his call… except for a strong and sexy demon who doesn’t want to admit she likes the chaste protagonist!

As such, the entire premise is an ecchi setup where everything is designed to serve up fan service. Throw in the super-aggressive jealous childhood female friend Lilia, cliche scenes, and other overused tropes involving bullies and it’s easy to see why early reviews were just average.

Still, the review scores might be overly critical since the story doesn’t become more interesting until the halfway point of the first season. In fact, ecchi fans might have brought tissues for watching, but by the end of the first season they were using them to wipe away real tears!

Despite following the ecchi tropes, Alto is a likable character and doesn’t possess deeply ingrained personality defects like the protagonists in Harem in the Labyrinth of Another World (Isekai Harem) or Rent-A-Girlfriend. To a certain extent, Alto is similar to the protagonist of Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun if Iruma were made more generic/dense and thrown into an ecchi story.

The titular Vermeil also has surprising depth since the tragic backstory to her title of Ultimate Disaster showed how there’s more to her character than simply being a sexy temptress whose powers need to be replenished with kisses. Vermeil in Gold Episode 10 is when the anime reaches a turning point in the manga’s story that changes the tone completely from a stereotypical ecchi to more of a mature fantasy.

Even before this tonal shift, Alto’s “death” and resurrection in Episode 6 were emotionally compelling. The ED music track “Mortal With You” hits differently once audiences realized that their lives are linked since they are both mortal together.

As for the antagonists, it’s interesting that some of the Platinum Squares are essentially trying to resurrect a Cthulu-like ancient demon. The nutty randomness of Iolite certainly made for a contrast with Alto, although the “annihilate the world” motivation was a total evil villain cliche.

These tweaks on the ecchi formula are only barely enough to save the anime from being rated lower than average even though the ecchi and battle scenes were surprisingly well-animated. If the plan was to target the ecchi-watching target audience then even that plan was thwarted by the fact that there’s no way to watch Vermeil in Gold uncensored.

The makers of Isekai Harem at least know that their thirsty followers are buying Blu-Ray discs so they made an uncensored version of the BD box set that actually went way further than the relatively chaste descriptions provided by the Isekai Harem light novels (although the Isekai Harem manga was similarly graphically explicit).

On the other hand, the Vermeil in Gold anime kept the lewdness toned down to PG-13 levels just like the manga. But that’s not surprising since the manga is a fantasy/romantic comedy that’s meant for the shonen or teenage male audience.

As such, any actual sex scenes are heavily implied rather than shown since. In anime and manga, it’s a common trope to reveal that characters are having sex by giving the female characters glowing skin.

Speaking of the Vermeil in Gold manga, any boost the anime premiere might give to the manga sales was not good enough for the series to make it on Oricon’s Top 20 manga series chart for July 2022. To be fair, the only other Summer 2022 anime series to make that Oricon Top 20 chart was Call of the Night, Kingdom, and Ao Ashi. (We’re also predicting that Call of the Night Season 2Kingdom Season 5 and Ao Ashi Season 2 will happen in the future.)

However, manga sales are only an indicator of an anime series’ popularity in Japan, whereas global streaming revenue is the major factor. Unfortunately, HIDIVE doesn’t provide anything similar to Crunchyroll’s popular anime list to judge the streaming performance.

But we can look to anime popularity ranking polls for guidance. In that case, the individual Vermeil in Gold episodes were often ranked in the Top 10 on a week-by-week basis.

As such, even as a HIDIVE exclusive, it’s possible that the international streaming numbers were good enough on their own for the anime production committee to justify greenlighting the sequel. According to Deadline, AMC Networks (which owns HIDIVE, AMC+, Acorn TV, Shudder, Sundance Now, and ALLBLK) reported in Q2 2022 that its streaming subscribers jumped up by an incredible 46 percent.

HIDIVE had a very strong set of anime exclusives in 2022, so perhaps TV shows like Vermeil in Gold have contributed to this subscriber growth? (The same could be said for DanMachi Season 5 since the Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? anime became a HIDIVE exclusive in 2022.)

In any case, the biggest issue is whether the producer planned out the production of a second season in advance, which seems very unlikely. The reason is that the anime adapted the majority of the manga chapters that were released as of Summer 2022.

Since new manga chapters are released on a monthly basis there probably won’t be enough source material completed until early 2024 (and that assumes the newer story arcs reach a good stopping point by then). Therefore, in the best-case scenario, the wait for the Vermeil in Gold Season 2 release date should be multiple years.

Vermeil in Gold Season 2 English dub release date predictions

Sentai Filmworks has licensed the rights for the Vermeil in Gold English dub. The Vermeil in Gold English dub cast hasn’t been announced yet.

During Otakon 2022 on July 30, 2022, HIDIVE announced that the Vermeil in Gold English dub release date was in September 2022 (or Q4 2022).

Unfortunately, the dubbing process for HIDIVE exclusives isn’t as fast as the Crunchyroll SimulDub team, which is either same-day or only a couple of weeks behind the English subs release.

As such, it’s predicted that the Vermeil in Gold Season 2 English dub release date will be at least a month after the initial premiere.

Vermeil in Gold manga compared to the anime

The story for the TV show is based on the Vermeil in Gold manga series by writer Kouta Amana and illustrator Youko Umezu. Serialized in Square Enix’s Monthly Shonen Gangan since August 2018, the Kinsou no Vermeil manga was up to Volume 6 as of June 10, 2022.

Unfortunately, no North American publisher has announced the official Vermeil in Gold manga’s English translation. However, there are fan translation projects.

When anime TV shows adapt a manga series the director can choose to stick to a panel-by-panel adaptation or show some artistic freedom. While the Vermeil in Gold anime stayed true to the source material there were some minor changes including tweaks to the presentation of the duel in Vermeil in Gold Episode 3.

As previously mentioned, there’s no uncensored version of the anime, but that doesn’t mean the anime didn’t censor the manga at all. For example, the bath/shower scenes and any detailed pantsu fan service scenes were censored.

In the aftermath of the first sex scene, manga Chapter 12 showed Vermeil topless, and Alto’s pants were visibly partially yanked down. In manga Chapter 13, even Alto was shown experiencing the afterglow of “studying” through the night with Vermeil.

Kinsou no Vermeil Episode 8 Sex Scene
Vermeil in Gold Episode 8 only implied that Alto and Vermeil had sex by visually giving her the afterglow effect. The manga specifically states that they had been going at it for 1 hour, which by itself implies that more than kissing took place. In the manga’s English fan translation, the translators note, “The ‘ladies with glowing skin’ stuff in manga is meant to be a metaphor for the afterglow of sex. Is this the first confirmation that they’ve done it?” Pic credit: Studio Staple Entertainment

All in all, as Anime Geek predicted the first season’s finale, Kinsou no Vermeil Episode 12, found a stopping point corresponding to manga Volume 5: Chapter 17.

It’s the best stopping point since the awkward romance between Vermeil and Alto has finally blossomed into true love and acceptance now that Vermeil’s past has been revealed. It’s actually kind of amazing that the romantic progression has already reached this point since anime and manga stories are known for dragging out things forever. (Poor Lilia didn’t even stand a chance!)

The bad news is that there currently weren’t enough new chapters available in 2022 for making Vermeil in Gold Season 2. The good news is that manga fan translation projects allow English-only manga readers to read ahead of the anime.

Vermeil in Gold Season 2 anime TV spoilers (plot summary/synopsis)

The last time audiences watched the anime, the Student Council had decided they were going to have Alto and Vermeil’s back. But Alto is shocked when getting the new Student Council up and running… involves relaxing in bathing suits in a pool at a private resort!?

Needless to say, Alto is confused. And although Vermeil looks great in a bathing suit, Lilia decides to take advantage of the situation by trying to one-up Vermeil by wearing a string micro bikini.

Up until this point, Vermeil had been throwing herself at Alto at every opportunity, but now she’s practically blushing when Alto looks at her body. Ever since Alto confessed his love for her Vermeil’s demeanor has almost changed into shyness. Cutely, she doesn’t even recognize her own reaction as being love. As for Alto, he is reminded to be mindful of his girl’s emotions by complimenting her.

“How does it look? Does it look good on me?” You would think that would be a rhetorical question coming out of the mouth of Vermeil.

But this bathing suit bash isn’t merely fun and games. It turns out the Student Council President Elena has arranged to meet with Lt General Leonardo Gearnote, a hero in the Army. It is revealed that he’s Elena’s big brother (despite the different last names).

The Lt. General announces that their forces have decided to drop all questions about Vermeil. Aside from Colonel Phalanx, the only people in the military who know that she’s a demon are Leonardo and the Army General.

But in return for allowing Alto and Vermeil to continue their school life as if nothing happened, the military is requiring that the Student Council collaborate with the Ortigia Army. In other words, the military will overlook the existence of a demon in their midst as long as she’s under surveillance… and willing to lend her power to the kingdom.

Their first mission is to infiltrate the autonomous religious state of Antrea. It’s an enigmatic place where believers of the Church of Antrea live in an unknown location.

Antrea is led by the Platinum Square Gannet Granatus, a mage who defied convention and reinvented magic theory by taking levitation magic to the next level. Alto, Vermeil, and the members of the Student Council were only able to fly Chris Westland’s dragon into Antrea since they were invited as official ambassadors to deliver a letter.

Unbeknownst to them, the contents of the letter demand that Antrea’s leader transfer a demon she owns to the kingdom of Ortigia’s military. If she refuses it’ll be considered treason and the kingdom will launch an attack on Antrea.

Of course, Gannet shreds the letter in half with magic and tells them no. The tension could be cut with a knife until Student Council vice president Ryuuga Shinouji reminds Gannet that she was his private tutor 10 years ago when he was still a small child. Similar to his former teacher, Shin-kun has specializing in levitation magic.

Shin fears that Antrea will be invaded if Gannet doesn’t comply with the kingdom’s demands. But even after hearing his heartfelt plea, Gannet is unmoved and will not hand over possession of the demon to the Ortigia army.

After this unfortunate meeting, Alto realizes that Gannet isn’t the demon’s master since he believes the demon has a contract with anyone. There’s a mystery afoot since somewhere in Antrea there’s a sealed demon.

Since they just essentially delivered a declaration of war things are about to get interesting. And never mind when other dragon-killing Platinum Squares become involved!

Unfortunately, anime fans will have to wait until the Vermeil in Gold Season 2 release date to watch what happens next. Stay tuned!
