A new visual for the upcoming theatrical version of the Uta no Prince-sama The Movie: Maji LOVE ST☆RISH TOURS (Uta☆pri) has been revealed. It features the main cast sporting matching white captain’s clothes.

The movie will be released on September 2, 2022. The film is to be preceded by a TV anime special set to air on July 31, 2022.

Uta no Prince-sama The Movie: Maji LOVE ST☆RISH TOURS: what we know so far

The Uta☆pri theatrical movie is the latest addition to the franchise, which has been prolific over the years. It is composed of the ST☆RISH idol group’s footage.

The cast has remained consistent over the years, as follows:

  • Takuma Terashima as Otoya Ittoki
  • Kenichi Suzumura as Masato Hijirikawa
  • Kishō Taniyama as Natsuki Shinomiya
  • Mamoru Miyano as Tokiya Ichinose
  • Junichi Suwabe as Ren Jingūji
  • Hiro Shimono as Shō Kurusu
  • Kousuke Toriumi as Cecil Aijima

The movie is produced by A-1 Pictures, with Elements Garden composing the music. Broccoli and Noriyasu Agematsu are credited as original creators. The Uta☆pri theatrical movie will be distributed by Shochiku Films.

Note that the Uta☆pri movie has been dubbed part of a “new theatrical film series.” So far, no additional info regarding the potential sequels has been provided, so stay tuned.

Uta no Prince-sama TV anime special

The Uta no Prince-sama Maji Love ST☆RISH Tours TV anime special has been announced for July 31, 2022. The special will promote the upcoming theatrical movie, as well as commemorate the franchise’s 10th anniversary.

All original cast members (see above) are reprising their roles.

The staff is, as follows:

  • Broccoli,  Noriyasu Agematsu — original work
  • Chika Nagaoka — director
  • Chinatsu Kurahana — original character design
  • Maki Fujioka — chief animation director
  • Elements Garden — music

A-1 Pictures is producing the Uta☆pri TV anime special.

The Uta no Prince-sama/Body Fantasies collaboration

To promote the upcoming Uta☆pri TV anime special and theatrical movie, the movie production team is launching a collaboration project with Body Fantasies, a popular Japanese women’s fragrance brand, which will start on July 1 and end on July 31. The Uta☆pri products will be available for online purchases and displayed in select stores.

A follow-up gift campaign will see all buyers receive original Uta☆pri stickers at the cash register. 355 people with purchase receipts will be selected by lottery for special gifts.

Uta no Prince-sama timeline

Uta no Prince-sama (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪, Princes of Song) is a multimedia franchise by Broccoli, which started as a series of otome video games (dating games for girls). The first game was released on PlayStation Portable in June 2010 and was followed by five additional ones and several spin-offs.  

The Uta no Prince-sama otome games are, as follows:

  • Uta no Prince-sama (June 24, 2010). On August 11, 2011, the game was released for PlayStation Vita under the title Uta no Prince-sama Repeat
  • Uta no Prince-sama: Amazing Aria (December 23, 2010)
  • Uta no Prince-sama: Sweet Serenade (February 10, 2011)
  • Uta no Prince-sama Debut (May 24, 2012)
  • Uta no Prince-sama All Star (March 7, 2013)
  • Uta no Prince-sama All Star After Secret — a sequel to Uta no Prince-sama All Star (March 12, 2015)

The Uta no Prince-sama spin-off music rhythm games are, as follows:

  • Uta no Prince-sama Music (November 24, 2011)
  • Uta no Prince-sama Music 2 — a sequel to Uta no Prince-sama Music (September 5, 2013)
  • Uta no Prince-sama Music 3 (January 28, 2015) was released for PlayStation Vita
  • Uta no Prince-sama Shining Live (August 27, 2017) was released for iOS and Android. The Global release (Japanese and English), co-developed by Broccoli and KLab, took place on January 24, 2018

Due to the games’ tremendous popularity, the franchise has since expanded to include several TV anime series and movies, as follows:

  • The first Uta☆pri TV series by A-1 Pictures — Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000% (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪ マジLOVE1000%) aired in 2011;
  • The second season — titled Uta no Prince-sama Maji LOVE 2000%  (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪マジLOVE2000%) — aired in 2013.
  • The third season — titled Utano☆Princesama Revolutions (うたの☆プリンスさまっ♪マジLOVEレボリューションズ)  aired in 2015.
  • The fourth season — titled Utano☆Princesama Legend Star aired in 2016.

Another feature film (Utano☆Princesama Maji LOVE Kingdom) was screened at Anime Expo 2019. 

Being a copious franchise, Uta no Prince-sama has a little something to offer to a wide audience of demanding fans, so look forward to the upcoming theatrical release.
