Good news for all SAO fans! The Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night movie is now scheduled to premiere on October 22, 2022, in Japan.
The movie was first announced back in November 2021 on the Sword Art Online -Progressive – Hoshi Naki Yoru no Aria (Sword Art Online -Progressive – Aria of a Starless Night) official website. It was scheduled to be released on September 10, 2022, but the debut was postponed due to the nationwide spread of the new coronavirus infection in Japan.
A special SAO screening event — which was scheduled to take place at Shinjuku Wald 9 theatre in Tokyo on August 24, 2022 — was canceled due to the delay.
The release of the original movie soundtrack (initially planned for September 9, 2022) was also postponed. It is now scheduled to release one day before the movie premieres — on October 21, 2022, at a price of 3,300 Yen (tax included).
The Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night Commemorative Fair
A fair commemorating the release of the Sword Art Online -Progressive- Scherzo of Deep Night movie will be held at 15 Tokyu Hands stores across Japan.
Newly illustrated “Quest Leeds” featuring characters in exploration outfit costumes and various other pre-sale goods with exclusive benefits will be available at the stores from September 8, 2022, to October 10, 2022.

More about the SAO -Scherzo of Deep Night- series
Sword Art Online -Progressive -Scherzo of Deep Night- is the second film inspired by the SAO Progressive light novel series.
The first one — Sword Art Online the Movie -Progressive- Aria of a Starless Night — premiered in Japan in October 2021. Subsequently, the movie went on to premiere in more than 40 countries.
The anime series is based on the Sword Art Online: Progressive light novel series written by Reki Kawahara and illustrated by abec. The story serves as an expanded retelling of Sword Art Online’s Aincrad storyline.
The new movie is adapting Volume 4 of the series, which means we’ll be jumping to the fifth floor of the castle.
