If you’ve been holding your breath for an Oshi no Ko anime adaptation, you can breathe easier knowing it’s finally happening! And AI Hoshino will be voiced by Rie Takahashi!
The anime TV series, which is based on the manga of the same name by Aka Akasaka, is set to premiere sometime in 2023. While the exact time frame for the Oshi no Ko release date has been announced yet, it was officially revealed on Twitter that the first episode will be an extended length, coming in at around 90 minutes of runtime.
The anime will be produced by Studio Doga Kobo. They’ve worked on hundreds of titles, including Berserk, Death Note, My Hero Academia, and more. Daisuke Hiramaki will direct the series. He also has an extensive resume that includes both directing and animating for titles like IDOLM@STER and Naruto Shippuden.
What do we know about Oshi no Ko so far?
There isn’t a substantial amount of information about the series out there just yet, but it seems they are setting up to do a few big reveals in the coming months.
While they have released some key visuals and information so far, one of the biggest reveals came in the form of a casting announcement. Actress Rie Takahashi, who is known for playing characters in shows like Rent-A-Girlfriend and Classroom of the Elite, was cast as Ai, one of the main characters of Oshi no Ko. So far, she seems to be the only cast member who has been officially announced.
Coming up right around the corner on October 29 and 30, 2022, there will be an exhibition for Oshi no Ko at the “Kaguya-sama wants to tell you” festival in Akihabara. According to the official website, this will include a photo spot using visuals.
Not long after that event, on December 11, 2022, Oshi no Ko will host its own event with cast member Rie Takahashi. On the website, it says the event could include the announcement of new details such as delivery time or related information.
It’s no surprise to see this anime getting so many events when it was voted one into the top ten list of manga people want to see given an anime adaptation in March 2023.
What will Oshi no Ko be about?
If you’ve never heard of Oshi no Ko, you’re probably wondering what the anime will be about.
The series tells the story of Goro Amemiya, a doctor who is tasked with delivering the children of a famous idol named Ai Hoshino. As a fan of the idol himself, this is great news. Unfortunately, he never gets the chance to deliver the children, as he is murdered by Ai’s stalker.
However, this isn’t the end for Goro, as he ends up reincarnating as one of Ai’s children, with all of his memories intact. In an even crazier coincidence, the other child turns out to be a reincarnation of one of his patients as well, Sarina Tenjouji.
After their mother’s death, Goro makes it his goal to find and kill the stalker under his new identity as Aquamarine Hoshino, while his sister Ruby (formally Sarina) looks to carry out her old dream of becoming an idol like their mother. Now he’ll have to protect his sister, while also looking to exact his revenge on the man who not only murdered him and his mother. As if it wasn’t messy enough, he has a suspicion the stalker may be his father, as well.
It’s definitely one of the wildest-sounding premises I’ve ever personally heard of, but with over 1 million copies sold, I imagine it’ll be worth checking out!
