FUNimation’s My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission release date in North America and the UK is confirmed to be on October 29, 2021. The new My Hero Academia Movie 3 will have an English dub in U.S. theaters.
The MHA: World Heroes’ Mission movie is also releasing in Australia and New Zealand on October 28, 2021. Otherwise, FUNimation says the film is “coming soon” to Latin America (in Spanish and Portuguese) and in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, all with subtitles in English as well as in each country’s corresponding language (except Iceland).
The My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission runtime is a duration of 1 hour and 40 minutes.
“Funimation brought My Hero Academia to U.S. audiences and has championed the anime through all five television seasons on Funimation, three movie releases, merchandise and the rise of an incredible community of fans,” said Colin Decker, CEO for the Funimation Global Group. “We’re proud to team up with Toho and the production committee to deliver another outstanding adventure for Deku, Bakugo and the characters from the My Hero Academia universe that fans have come to love.”

The film was originally released in Japan on August 6, 2021, the middle of the Summer 2021 anime season. The announcement was made in Weekly Shonen Jump and by a movie trailer released by the official website.
The film was previously known as My Hero Academia Movie 3 until the official title was confirmed. The first Boku no Hero Academia movie was called Two Heroes, whereas the second film was called Heroes Rising.
Prior to the My Hero Academia movie 3 announcement in WSJ, the official Twitter account released an image teasing the upcoming film. It showed Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki and used the tagline “He will meet the three musketeers.”
The confirmation came with the following message, “The third My Hero Academia THE MOVIE will be released in the summer of 2021!!”
My Hero Academia manga creator Kohei Horikoshi will be involved in the production of the My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission movie as the draft character designer. He will also be responsible for the general supervision of the project.
The first million theater goers in Japan will be treated to a special Vol. World Heroes manga volume, which is similar to the Vol. Origin and Vol. Rising manga volumes that were released in conjunction with the first two movies. Vol. World Heroes will include an original story, interviews, and design art for the characters and costumes.
The official website for My Hero Academia Movie 3 contains a message from the creator.
“They’re going to do a third movie! Thank you for continuing to support Deku and his friends! When the second movie was announced, I made a comment that there would be no more movies, but there were. We have been supported by many people. I can’t sleep with my feet facing any direction anymore, so I have to sleep on my head.”
On May 18, 2021, it was announced that voice actor Ryo Yoshizawa will play the new My Hero Academia character Rody Soul (or Rodi Soul/Roddy Soul; the official English version of the name hasn’t been confirmed yet).
“I will be playing the role of Rody Soul in My Hero Academia The Movie: World Heroes’ Mission,” Yoshizawa said, according to the official website. “I love My Hero Academia. I’m really excited to be a part of that world. I’m glad I can talk about my love for My Hero Academia in so many places! It’s arrived! Just as planned! In order to not destroy this wonderful world full of passion and humor, I’ll try my best to develop the character, even though there are many things I’m not good at. Please be gentle with me.”
Boku no Hero Academia manga creator Horikoshi designed the character. (See the story section below for more details about the character.)

FUNimation’s My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission USA release date for the English dub
In the past, FUNimation Films has been responsible for the international distribution including the My Hero Academia movie U.S. theater releases. Manga Entertainment typically handles the movie distribution to the UK and Ireland, while Madman Anime handles Australia and New Zealand.
FUNimation typically releases the films in America and Canada with both an English dub and subtitles. In the past, the North American premiere has always been in the month following the Japanese release, but in this case, international anime fans are waiting an extra month.
On August 25, 2021, FUNimation confirmed that the My Hero Academia Movie 3 USA release date is set for October 29, 2021.
My Hero Academia Movie 3 timeline: Story set during Boku no Hero Academia Season 6
The official story summary for the third MHA movie hasn’t been released yet. All we know is that it will involve Izuku Midoriya, Katsuki Bakugo, and Shoto Todoroki going on a mission together with Endeavor while wearing new stealth suits.
A shocking scene from the movie trailer also has OBC news announcing, “Izuku Midoriya aka Japanese Hero ‘Deku’ Wanted For Mass Murder.” The mission will involve the whole world since the narrator says, “The time limit until the world destruction is two hours.”
Here’s the official story summary:
“A mysterious group called Humarize strongly believes in the Quirk Singularity Doomsday Theory, which states that as quirks get mixed further in with future generations, that power will bring forth an end to humanity. They believe quirks are a disease and aim to cleanse the world of anyone who possesses quirks.
They have planted Ideo Trigger Bombs in various countries all around the world that forces a user’s quirk to go ballistic and cause mass destruction. In order to save everyone, the Pro-Heroes are the world ask the UA Academy heroes-in-training to assist them and for a World-Class Selected Hero Team. Their objective is to stop the bombs around the world.
Deku, Bakugou, and Todoroki, who are currently interning at Endeavor’s Agency, are called forth to go to a far-away country called Oseon. However, during the operation, Deku gets involved in an event that causes him to become one of the world’s most wanted criminals. Within this chaos, the group Humarize announces to the world that they were behind this and the ‘time limit is 2 hours.’
It is up to the Heroes to save the world and the future of heroes in what is the most dangerous crisis to take place yet in the Boku no Hero Academia story!”
The students at UA high school will be sent on a mission to collect these bombs in various places. They will be operating far way from Japan.
The new Rody Soul character will play a central role in the story. It’s said that Rody lives in a trailer home in Oseon, a place near where Deku, Bakugo, and Todoroki are deployed.
“In order to support his younger siblings, Rody gave up his dream and worked as a courier to make a living, but an incident leads him to work with Deku and the other two heroes. Due to his upbringing, he distrusts even heroes. He has a good-natured and cheerful personality, but he never reveals his true intentions to anyone.”
Based on the timeline of the My Hero Academia manga series, the official website states that the original story of the movie occurs during the winter hero internship in the Endeavor Agency story arc, which is set near the end of the Rise of the Villians Saga and before the current third saga, which began with My Hero Academia Chapter 307.
While that means the My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission timeline is set way, way ahead of the anime TV series, that’s not unusual for the films.

The My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising timeline was significantly ahead of the TV show according to the director. It’s expected that My Hero Academia Season 5 will adapt the Joint Training arc and the Meta Liberation Army arc.
Heroes Rising took place after the Meta Liberation Army story arc, which was set in the winter. Although it’s never been officially confirmed, the film must have taken place during the four-month-long time skip discussed in MHA manga Chapter 258.
Therefore, it’s very likely that Heroes Rising took place between anime TV seasons whereas My Hero Academia: World Heroes’ Mission will take place in the middle of My Hero Academia Season 6.
