The Witch from Mercury is the upcoming installment in the long-running Mobile Suit Gundam series. And as the title suggests — the main protagonist will be a female — breaking away from tradition. After all, it’s a series renowned for its many memorable male Mobile Suit pilots, such as Amuro Ray, Char Aznable, and Shiro Amada.
While we don’t yet know the name of the crimson-haired heroine, we do know that she pilots the cool-looking Gundam Aerial. The color scheme of this Mobile Suit conforms with the blue, red, white, and yellow color scheme popularized by the legendary RX-78-02 appearing in the original Mobile Suit Gundam series from 1979.
And according to the official Twitter account, Japanese Gundam fans can expect the TV show to start broadcasting on MBS/TBS every Sunday at 5 PM starting with the Witch from Mercury release date in October 2022, the Summer 2022 anime season. Given the death of good mecha anime in recent years, the wait till October may be unbearable for fans of fast-paced mecha action.
The Witch From Mercury will also be the first new TV anime in the franchise since Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans (Season 1), which premiered in October 2015. Nothing has been revealed yet regarding the voice cast and staff members, but Sunrise will handle production.
Which model kits based on The Witch From Mercury will fans be able to purchase?
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise owes much of its appeal to its merchandising. And particular, its comprehensive range of GUNPLA model kits, which boast accurate representations of the various Mobile Suits, down to the minutest details.
The three Mobile Suit designs from The Witch From Mercury revealed recently include the Beguir-Beau, Gundam Aerial, and Gundam Lfrith. And given how slick these designs look, fans will want to get hold of the model kits as soon as possible. But GUNPLA has already revealed their HG 1/144 range of model kits with prices and release dates TBA.
