Melty Blood and 2D fighting game fans have many reasons to rejoice! French Bread and TYPE-MOON have confirmed the date and details of the Melty Blood: Type Lumina Summer 2022 update.
The popular fighting game will receive a patch — free of charge — which will add two additional playable characters, character stories, and battle stages. Neco-Arc and Mash Kyrielight, the newest characters added to the roster, will be playable on August 19, 2022, at 6 AM (UTC).
While this is a generous gesture by French Bread and TYPE-MOON, it actually falls in line with their DLC release schedule.
They planned to release eight additional characters in total, with Aoko Aozaki and Dead Apostle Noel released in January 2022 and Powered Ciel and Mario Gallo Bestino in April 2022. And the remaining two undisclosed characters should appear in Winter 2022.
Furthermore, French Bread’s development director Kamone Serizawa went into greater detail about the upcoming additions and changes in the video below:
Key points in the video surround the game’s deep combat system. These include alterations made to the Combos, Dashes, Moon Skills, and Shields. Moreover, improvements are coming to the online matching system and the replay mode.
Melty Blood: Type Lumina has sold over 270,000 copies globally, making it a successful niche title. If you want in on the action, you can pick up a copy for the following platforms: PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (through Steam).
Who are French Bread and TYPE-MOON?
French Bread started life as a doujin group back in 1995. But what is a doujin group or doujin circle?
Technically, it’s the Japanese form of an indie game developer, usually comprised of a group of individuals. And operate similarly to doujinshi manga artists that self-publish and sell their own works.
In French Bread’s case, the group initially ported Sharp X68000 games to Microsoft Windows. They eventually released several games for the Windows platform, such as The Queen of Heart ’98, Glove on Fight, and Melty Blood. And later on, branched out and created games for arcades and consoles.
On the other hand, TYPE-MOON is both a game developer and publisher and was founded in 1998. It also has roots in the doujin scene as a Windows developer, releasing visual novels early on. Furthermore, they co-developed several Melty Blood games with French Bread and are also responsible for Tsukihime and the remake of Fate/EXTRA.
