If you’ve been holding out for news on the upcoming Luminous Witches anime, the wait is over. They’ve officially announced a release date for the series and it’s coming up soon.
According to a schedule from the official website, the Luminous Witches release date is set for July 3, 2022.
This is probably great news for fans who have been awaiting the debut of the series for quite some time now. Originally set to debut in 2021, the date was pushed back to 2022 for “various circumstances”.
The series will be produced by Studio Shaft. Back in March, they released a Luminous Witches trailer for the series announcing a July release. The new visual was put out by the studio this week along with the confirmed exact release date.
What will the Luminous Witches anime be about?
If you’ve never heard of this series, you’re probably wondering what it could be about? The title is both spot-on, but also somewhat misleading all at the same time.
While Luminous Witches is its own original series, it will be a spinoff of the series Strike Witches.
The girls in Strike Witches were known for using the power of magic to fight off monsters in a World War II-era battle.
It seems Luminous Witches will expand upon this premise but with non-combat witches this time. According to a translated synopsis from the official website, this series will center around, “A unique wing that brings a moment of peace and healing to those who travel around the world and fight against Neuri and those who have been displaced from their hometowns.”
It’s definitely giving off both military anime and idol anime vibes, with a touch of fantasy even. Fans of the original Strike Witches franchise are definitely in for a new twist on the series.

Fans should be happy to know that most of the main roles for the series have already been cast. The actors are set to not only voice their characters but also handle the singing as well. For many of the main actresses, this seems to be one of their first roles.
