About the Legend of the Galactic Heroes franchise

Legend of the Galactic Heroes was originally a novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka that premiered in 1982. Five years later, the 10th, final volume was released (1987). Viz Media has licensed the series, with all ten volumes having been translated into English.

The novels were first adapted into an anime film in 1988 (Legend of the Galactic Heroes: My Conquest is the Sea of Stars), which proved an immediate success. Thereby, the novels have also been adapted into the 110-episode OVA series, three OVA films, a prequel Gaiden OVA series, and one musical stage production.

The S1 of the Die Neue These plotline premiered on April 3, 2018, and ran for 12 episodes, ending on June 26, 2018.

Funimation is streaming the series with an English dub and Crunchyroll — with subtitles.

Marking the 40th anniversary of Legend of the Galactic Heroes

It’s not by coincidence that Sakubou is to be released in 2022. As mentioned above, Legend of the Galactic Heroes has been omnipresent since 1982, meaning that the franchise marks its 40th anniversary this year.

To commemorate the occasion, all volumes are being sold at a 40% discount price in Japan. Some other notable activities are also unfolding, including the upcoming sale of The Galactic Heroes Brunhild 1/8000 Scale Plastic Model Kit from HMA Co., Ltd (due to commence in September 2022).

Overall, there are plenty of activities surrounding the franchise, so stay tuned for further developments!
