About the Legend of the Galactic Heroes franchise

Legend of the Galactic Heroes started out as a novel series by Yoshiki Tanaka (1982). In 1987, the 10th, final volume of the novel series was released.

Viz Media has licensed the series for English-speaking audiences, with all ten volumes having been translated into English.

The first adaptation of the novels came to pass in 1988 when the Legend of the Galactic Heroes: My Conquest is the Sea of Stars anime film premiered. Following the success of the film, a whole slew of adaptations followed, including an OVA series (110 episodes), three OVA films, a prequel Gaiden OVA series, and a musical stage production.

Season 1 of Die Neue These premiered on April 3, 2018, and ran for 12 episodes, ending on June 26, 2018.

Both Funimation and Crunchyroll are streaming Die Neue These: the first with an English dub and the latter with an English sub.
