About the Legend of Mana RPG
As mentioned above, the Legend of Mana -The Teardrop Crystal- (Seiken Densetsu Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal) anime is based on the eponymous role-playing game. More precisely, in the fourth game in Square’s Mana series, titled Legend of Mana.
The RPG was developed and published by Square (now known as Square Enix) for PlayStation in 1999. On June 24, 2021, Legend of Mana: The Teardrop Crystal HD was remastered for PC, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
The plot of the game follows a young hero named Shiloh who decides to restore the world. Namely, ca. 900 years prior, a catastrophic event saw the Mana Tree (a source of mana and life) burn down, almost to the ashes. Thereupon, a war between the races (humans, fairies, etc.) broke out. The war ended with the Mana Tree falling into a regenerative sleep.
Where the TV anime will start the story remains to be seen, but the premiere date is just around the corner, so, hopefully, we won’t have to wait too long for the series to premiere outside of Japan.
