Hunter x Hunter manga timeline
Hunter x Hunter is a manga series by Yoshihiro Togashi that launched in 1998. The manga has been serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump.
New chapters were being released regularly during the first 8 years of its run. However, since 2006, Hunter x Hunter had faced prolonged hiatuses, with the latest one (2018) lasting for almost four years and ending on October 23, 2022, with the release of Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391.
The prolonged hiatuses are due to mangaka Togashi’s back pain.
The irregular schedule has made the series’ fans irritated nevertheless; the sentiment can, perhaps, be excused when we know that Hunter x Hunter is one of the most popular manga series of all time.
It’s been a long time since 1998 when Togashi’s masterpiece saw the light of day. Twenty-something years later, Hunter x Hunter is a full-blown franchise spanning several highly-acclaimed anime adaptations and multiple video games.
The first 62-episode TV anime adaptation of Hunter x Hunter aired from 1999 to 2001. Another 148-episode adaptation (6 seasons) aired from 2011 to 2014. A 30-episode OVA series ran from 2002 to 2004, and there are also two animated films.
It is also worth mentioning that mangaka Togashi is celebrating the 35th anniversary of his pioneering work this year. A grand exhibition aimed at honoring his legacy titled “Togashi Yoshihiro Exhibition -PUZZLE-” will open to the public on October 28, 2022, in Tokyo and will last until January 9, 2023.
Good thing Hunter x Hunter is back to add a zest of nostalgia to the event!
Let’s hope new HxH manga chapters will be published regularly. Until the release of the next Shōnen JUMP issue, do savor Hunter x Hunter Chapter 391! A four-year-long hiatus is no laughing matter, after all.
