The summer movie season has sadly ended, but Crunchyroll is adding Fruits Basket: Prelude and Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry to its roster! So if you haven’t seen them in theaters or bought a physical copy, this is the perfect time to catch up on your movies!

Both movies will be available in Japanese and English, but Fruits Basket: Prelude will also be available in Latin American Spanish, Brazillian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, and Castiallain Spanish.

Fruits Basket: Prelude

Although the movie is billed as a prequel to the 2019 Fruits Basket anime, roughly 30 minutes are scenes from the final episodes. And you have to wait to get to the new content.

But once you get there, Prelude is everything a Fruits Basket fan wants. We see how Tohru’s parents meet, fall in love, have a baby Tohru, and see tiny versions of Kyo and Yuki.

The trauma that Kyoko goes through after Katsuya’s death feels real and puts new meaning behind Tohru. However, I wish the majority had been new, with a scene to go with the final episode.

We know that everyone got a happy or bittersweet ending, but it would’ve been nice to see the rest of the Sohma family at the end. If you’d like to read more about Fruits Basket: Prelude, check out my review on it here!

Fairy Tale: Dragon Cry

Fairy Tale: Dragon Cry is the sequel to Fairy Tail the Movie: Phonix Priestess and is set between the final story arcs of the last season. It initially aired in 2017, and you can also purchase or rent it on YouTube and Amazon.

The plot focuses on the members of our favorite guild as they infiltrate the Kingdom of Stella to reclaim a stolen staff, the Dragon Cry. It has everything fans love about Fairy Tail.

Natsu acts like a ninja, dragons, a post-credit scene with Acnologia and Zeref, fantastic music, amazing fighting scenes, and Natsu getting a power-up. You don’t have to see it to understand what’s going on in the final season.

But it’s a worthy addition to the Fairy Tail franchise. So you can look forward to these films on October 6, 2022.
