Sentai Filmworks announced at their panel at Otakon 2022 that the Call of the Night English dub release date will be in September 2022. No word on who the English cast will be, but I’m happy as long as they don’t change the music!

Call of the Night is a series that loves to push boundaries and makes you think without preaching. So if you’re looking for a real vampire experience without gore and an excellent soundtrack to listen to, this one is for you.

What does the Night mean?

Most people view the night as a time to be feared due to childhood fears and almost forgotten instincts. However, protecting yourself when you can’t see a threat is complex, and vampires represent so much of our culture that we can’t decide if we fear them or not.

But with Nazuna, all of the fear drains away. She drinks beer, loves lewd jokes, gets embarrassed by romance, and is a beautiful lens into the nightlife.

Nazuna’s belief that people stay up at night because they’re unsatisfied with their day hits home on several layers. When I was a kid, I did anything to stay up late because I hated being left out of the big kid stuff.

I kept pushing my limits throughout high school and found out I could stay awake for three days the hard way. But, on the other hand, there’s something magical about being outside in the middle of the night.

And the night sky in Call of the Night is breathtaking. All the purples, pinks, greens, and yellows make the backgrounds feel more prominent and alive.

The night shouldn’t be feared because it’s dark; it should be embraced because it’s going to happen. But, of course, it’s not recommended to sneak out when you’re 14.

What happens next for Call of the Night?

The manga is at 11 volumes in Japan, and English readers will enjoy volume 9 on September 13, 2022. So perhaps the dub will start around then?

Here’s hoping that Call of the Night gets at least 24 episodes because Ko has barely entered Nazuna’s world. We have more characters to meet and questions that need answers, and if Ko understands what love is so, we can get a happy ending.
