The Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 release date is confirmed to be delayed until April 3, 2022, the beginning of the Spring 2022 anime season. The title of the episode is confirmed to be The Dawn of Humanity.
Attack On Titan Season 4’s final episode is also known as Attack On Titan Episode 87 (Shingeki no Kyojin Episode 87) in the overall timeline, or Attack On Titan Season 4 Episode 28. Part 1 had 16 episodes in total and it’s already been confirmed that AoT S4 Part 2 will have only 12 episodes.
This announcement means that no Attack On Titan: Final Season episodes will be streaming or broadcast on TV on March 27, 2022.
The cause is not mounting production issues at Studio MAPPA or anything bad like that. Thankfully, AoT fans will not be subjected to the horrors of waiting on a cliffhanger for months like how 86 anime fans are waiting on 86 Season 2 Episodes 11 and 12.
Instead, TV broadcaster NHK announced that the Attack On Titan Episode 87 release date was being postponed simply due to special programming conflicting with the TV schedule on March 27, 2022.
Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 9 release date also changed slightly
There is also some minor shuffling in regards to the Attack On Titan Episode 84 release date.
Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 9 will still be released on Sunday, March 6, 2022, but the TV broadcast is being pushed back 10 minutes to 24:15 JST. That’s effectively 15 minutes past midnight on March 7, 2022.
It’s uncertain whether this small change will impact the streaming release schedule for FUNimation or Crunchyroll. Typically, new Attack On Titan episodes begin streaming in the USA and Canada as a Simulcast on Sundays at 3:45 PM EST (5:45 AM JST).
While Crunchyroll and FUNimation haven’t made any official announcements concerning this issue, but due to the time difference there will likely be no change for international audiences watching the episode.
Dub watchers will still need to wait several weeks until the English dubbed version catches up. FUNimation’s Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 English dub release date was on February 13, 2022. New dubbed episodes are being released weekly as a Simuldub.
Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 3 or AoT: The Rumbling movie possible?
Rumors have abounded since it was officially confirmed that Part 2 would only have 12 episodes. Part 1 took 16 episodes to adapt 26 manga chapters and finished up in Chapter 116, which meant there are 23 more chapters before reaching the manga’s ending in Attack On Titan Chapter 139.
While some believe that Part 2 will finish the entire story, others believe it’s possible that Studio MAPPA is purposefully leaving an opening for an Attack On Titan: The Rumbling movie. After all, the anime production committee would want to match the astounding box office success of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaizen 0.
The other option is finishing the story with an Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 3 anime TV series. But that option depends on where in the manga’s story Attack On Titan Episode 87 leaves anime fans hanging.
Attack On Titan Episode 82 (Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 7) is officially named after Chapter 125: Sunset. That leaves only five episodes to adapt roughly 14 chapters.
Since Attack On Titan Episode 87 corresponds to Chapter 130: The Dawn of Humanity, then the remaining 9 chapters seem much too long for a film but it’d be a perfect fit for a short, single-cour TV finale. Then again, Chapter 131 is named The Rumbling so it’s possible that an Attack On Titan movie: The Rumbling could be split into multiple parts, as well.
We’ll just have to wait until the Attack On Titan Season 4 Part 2 Episode 12 release date to watch how it ends. Stay tuned!
