A new trailer for Studio Trigger and XFlag’s original anime feature film Promare recently showed up online. This trailer is the first official one from GKIDS with English subtitles.
Last month, Anime Expo held the Promare North American premiere on July 5. GKIDS also teamed up with Fathom Events for a special screening of the film in North America which will take place on Sept. 17 and Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. local time. The screening on Sept. 17 will be the English dub of the anime, and on Sept. 19, attendees will get English subtitles.
After that, Promare opens in select theaters on September 20, which gives fans three dates to check it out on the big screen in theaters.
Here’s a quick synopsis of Promare:
Thirty years has passed since the appearance of Burnish, a race of flame-wielding mutant beings, who destroyed half of the world with fire. When a new group of aggressive mutants calling themselves “Mad Burnish” appears, the epic battle between Galo Thymos, a new member of the anti-Burnish rescue team “Burning Rescue,” and Lio Fotia, the leader of “Mad Burnish” begins.
If you’re a fan of other Studio Trigger animes such as Gurren Lagann and Kill la Kill, you’re likely going to enjoy this one. The vibe of the film is very similar to Studio Trigger’s other high octane anime series.
In fact, the main protagonist of the movie is almost a dead ringer for Kamina from Gurren Lagann.
Promare opened in theaters in Japan on May 24 and earned more than 1 billion yen (about $9.4 million) at the box office. NYAV Post produced the English dub for the feature with Studio Trigger casting and supervising. \
Director Hiroyuki Imaishi and scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima worked on Promare at Studio Trigger with Shigeto Koyama on character design and mechanical design, Tomotaka Kubo as art director, Saishi Ichiko on logo design, Hiroyuki Sawano composed the music and Sushio as an animator.
