The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2 release date on Netflix U.S. is coming up very soon for impatient American audiences. Nanatsu no Taizai: Imashime no Fukkatsu (The Seven Deadly Sins: Revival Of The Commandments) already reached Episode 24 in Japan, so it seems the Spanish, French, German, and English dub were the sticking point for the release schedule in 2018.
The first season of the anime adaptation finished broadcasting in Japan back in 2015, but the first 24 episodes did not begin streaming internationally with an English dub until months later. Unfortunately, Netflix Japan airs anime episodes the day they’re released in Japan, but Netflix U.S. sets up Americans and other English-speaking countries for binge-watching entire seasons. Thankfully, Netflix has sped up the process considerably in 2018, but it’s still a frustrating waiting game for anime fans in the United States.
Ironically, the official Netflix page for the anime declares that fans can “watch Season 2 now on Netflix,” but that’s not accurate at all. A four-episode Nanatsu no Taizai OVA (Original Video Animation) series written by Nanatsu no Taizai manga creator Nakaba Suzuki released in 2016. The OVA series was called The Seven Deadly Sins: Signs Of Holy and it was mistakenly labeled as being the second season when it was first released on Netflix. The streaming giant eventually fixed that labeling mistake, but their system still refers to The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2 in some places as being already out.
The real Nanatsu no Taizai Season 2 first began airing in Japan on January 13, 2018. There was a brief hiatus in broadcasting between the two cours (a term for a three-month block of Japanese TV broadcasting), but Nanatsu no Taizai Season 2 Episode 24 released on June 30, 2018.
The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2: Netflix Release Date Announcement Coming In September
Netflix U.S. has officially confirmed that the second season is coming out in October 2018, although the exact premiere date hasn’t been announced yet. Netflix told Anime News Network that the exact premiere date will be announced at the end of September 2018.
They could have handled it like the Violet Evergarden anime, which began streaming in the United States the day the finale broadcasted in Japan. Instead, Netflix U.S. apparently delayed the release date for The Seven Deadly Sins Season 2 since the dubbing process takes several months.
It’s possible that the turnaround on Netflix anime could speed up over time. In 2018, companies like Funimation have been experimenting with what they call a simuldub broadcast, where the English dub episodes release the same day as the Japanese broadcast. This experiment has been successful for both Tokyo Ghoul: re and My Hero Academia. Therefore, it’s possible Netflix U.S. could push future episodes of The Seven Deadly Sins Season 3 out the door faster than usual. Let’s just hope that’s what happens for the sake of anime fans in the United States.
