Lam Siu Fung from Hong Kong is the new Pirate King as he now possesses a whopping 20,125 One Piece items, breaking the world record for the largest collection of One Piece memorabilia.
Lam calculates that he has spent a total of over 500,000 yuan ($73,700) putting together his world-record collection.
He keeps everything in a 1,000-square-foot warehouse that also doubles as a museum and a gathering spot for One Piece cosplayers to work on their costumes.
Lam Siu Fung was also featured in a Youtube video two years ago for his One Piece collection. Here is the video on the TCM TOYS Youtube channel:
Items in his One Piece memorabilia
Out of all these items, Lam’s favorite one is “No.34 extra-large Shonen Jump magazine published on 4 August 1997.” The reason for this is that One Piece manga Chapter 1 was serialized in this magazine.
A limited edition Japanese “Electroplated Ace” figurine, of which there are only 100 in existence, might be the most expensive piece in Lam’s collection. Lam spent 17,000 Chinese yuan ($2,505) on it.
When cosplaying as Luffy, Lam always makes sure to wear one of the three straw hats he has that are personally signed by Oda!
If it has anything to do with One Piece, Lam has it, from umbrellas to dustbins.
Previous record
The previous world record for the largest collection of One Piece memorabilia was held by the “infamous” Japanese fan Yoshikazu Sanada with 5,656 items.
The reason Sanada is “infamous” is that his questions have been featured many times in the SBS, where he goes by the name of “Sanadacchi.” And most, if not all, of his questions, are perverted. Even Oda himself has called Sanada a pervert many times!
One Piece series
One Piece is a long-running manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine since 1997 and has been adapted into multiple anime series, films, and video games.
The story follows Monkey D. Luffy, a young pirate whose body gains the properties of rubber after unintentionally eating a Devil Fruit, as he travels the Grand Line in search of the One Piece, a legendary treasure hidden in the Grand Line. Along the way, he gathers a diverse crew of pirates, known as the Straw Hat Pirates, to assist him on his journey.
