Goku is a lot of things. A hero, a parent, a friend, and potentially his worst enemy. Goku makes mistakes or selfish acts in every part of the franchise.
And most of the time, he fixes it himself, or someone else steps in. But what about the 100-year-skip at the end of Dragon Ball GT?
There will be spoilers if you haven’t seen A Hero’s Legacy.
Goku became a god?!
Goku died and was resurrected in the last episode of Dragon Ball GT. However, many fans are still debating about this twist in the franchise.
As Bulma said at the start of the Evil Dragon Saga, she couldn’t have collected the Dragon Balls without Goku. And this Saga reminds us of several moments when the Dragon Balls were used.
Some wishes were more about the actual purpose of the Dragon Balls. In contrast, others were more greedy or base nature.
But why did Goku say he’d see everyone again soon/in a little while? Was he trying to comfort them, or was this Goku being Goku and knowing/caring when he saw them again?
What happened during the 100-year-skip to make Shenron return the Dragon Balls? And will we see Goku Jr and Vegeta Jr again?
Is Goku Jr the reincarnation of Son Goku?
If you only watch GT and A Hero’s Legacy once, this question is hard to answer. However, seeing a past version of yourself often happens in anime, manga, and video games.
And there are cases where both versions can exist at the same time. Some of my favorites are Kikyo and Kagome from Inuyasha, Yugi Motoh and Atem/Ryou Bakura, and Yami Bakura from Yugioh.
And Goku even tells Jr that he/Jr is Son Goku. We know that Pan was the one who named him Goku Jr.
But the situation gets complicated when we think about Vegeta Jr. It wouldn’t be a stretch to assume that he’s the reincarnation of Vegeta.
Both of the Jrs can turn into Super Saiyans. The Dragon Balls are back. And Goku reveals himself to his descendant right before Pan and Puck arrive in a police car.
Pan appeared to be on her deathbed, and we saw Puck fall off a bridge. They were in different locations, Pan is over 100, and Puck is an average human.
Goku Jr only had one Dragon Ball, the four-star, and didn’t know he had to collect all seven to get a wish. But Goku Jr made several prayers to the Dragon Ball and Kami-sama in desperation.
Kami is the most well-known word for god in Japanese, and Goku showed up at that moment. If Goku cured Pan and saved Puck, this is breaking the rules of the Dragon Balls.
But now that the Dragon Balls are back, does this mean that the Jrs will have to face similar battles to their ancestors? Goku fused with the Dragon Balls and Shenron before the time skip.
So it wouldn’t be a stretch to say he can influence them in the future. But if the Dragon Balls are misused again, will Goku step in?
Or will he watch his descendants follow in his footsteps in an eternal loop? We may never know, but it’s fun to think about!
