Just out: Crunchyroll will be streaming The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 internationally as new episodes air in Japan!
The Mahoutsukai no Yome Season 2 release date will be in April 2023, the Spring 2023 anime season.
Crunchyroll announced the news during its industry panel at Anime NYC on November 19, 2023. It was thereby confirmed that the highly-anticipated sequel to the popular supernatural, dark fantasy anime series will be available to viewers in the Americas (North, Central, and South), Europe, Africa, Oceania, the Middle East, and CIS.
After much hype, The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 was confirmed to be in production on September 5, 2022. A brand-new official teaser trailer — which you can see following the link above — surfaced at the time.
On November 19, 2023, Crunchyroll posted the same teaser trailer — renamed to “official trailer,” which you can see below.
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 cast and staff
Studio Kafka is producing Mahoutsukai no Yome Season 2. This is the very same production company that previously worked on The Ancient Magus’ Bride three-part OAD (2021).
However, Season 1 of the anime series was produced by WIT STUDIO (2017).
The main Mahoutsukai no Yome S2 staff members are:
- Kazuaki Terasawa — director
- Hirotaka Katō — character designer
- Aya Takaha, Yoko Yonaiyama, Chiaki Nishinaka — screenplay
- Junichi Matsumoto — music composer
The main cast members, who will be reprising their roles, include:
- Atsumi Tanezaki (Spy x Family’s Anya) — Chise Hatori
- Ryōta Takeuchi — Elias Ainsworth
- Aya Endō — Silky
- Kōki Uchiyama — Ruth
- Satoshi Hino — Mikhail Renfred
- Mutsumi Tamura — Alice Swayne
The Ancient Magus’ Bride Season 2 will adapt the Gakuin (Academy) arc of the manga, which is exactly where the previous season ended. It is, thereby, to be expected that the series will follow the manga it’s based on to the letter.
About The Ancient Magus’ Bride manga series
TheAncient Magus’ Bride (魔法使いの嫁, Mahoutsukai no Yome) TV anime is inspired by the eponymous manga series by Kore Yamazaki. The manga was serialized in Mag Garden’s Monthly Comic Blade from November 2013 to September 2014. Since September 1, 2014, the Mahoutsukai no Yome manga has been serialized in Monthly Comic Blade magazine (physically) and on the Monthly Comic Blade website (digitally).
The individual chapters have been collected into eighteen tankōbon volumes in Japan. The English-language translation (licensed by Seven Seas Entertainment) is up to Volume 16 as of October 2022. Volume 7 will be out on March 7, 2023, just before The Ancient Magus’ Bride S2 premiere.
The plot centers on Chise Hatori — an orphaned Japanese girl who sells herself at an auction in hopes of finding a place to call home. Upon being bought by Elias Ainsworth — a humanoid magician (“magus”) of mysterious origins, Chise moves to London and starts a new life there.
Both the manga- and the anime series have proven to be a huge success, so it’s not surprising that fans are looking forward to the continuation of the saga.
