On October 23, 2022, @lupin_zero posted on Twitter that a new original net animation, Lupin Zero, will have 6 episodes. We have a teaser trailer, synopsis, some staff, a premiere screening, and when to expect it!
Sadly, there’s no word on if the original voice actors will be present or which services will be streaming it. But the tweet promises to bring us on a nostalgic trip and watching a child Lupin promises to be entertaining.
What is Lupin Zero?
Lupin Zero is a prequel to the Lupin the Third series and will be set in 1960 Tokyo. Going by the teaser, this won’t be Lupin’s first escapade, but it might be the one that makes his name known.
It will also combine stories from the manga and original adventures. The teaser has translated, “Lupin, my name is Lupin,” and hints at a choice he must make.
It can’t be about him becoming a thief, so what could it be, and who is he talking to? Will we also see younger versions of Jiegen, Goemon, Fujiko, and Zenigata?
Those going to Anime NYC 2022 on November 18-20 will see the worldwide premiere of Lupin Zero. Daisuke Sako is directing, and Ichiro Okouchi is supervising the scripts.
Asami Taguchi is designing the characters, and Yoshihide Otomo is composing the music. Lupin Zero is set to premiere in December 2022, and Telecom Animation Film will animate it.
Concerns for the future
Although six episodes may not seem like much, Lupin Zero is the second Lupin the Third project announced in 2022. TMS Entertainment announced Lupin the Third vs. Cat’s Eye on September 22, 2022.
Lupin the Third vs. Cat’s Eye will be entirely CGI and set 20 years after the events of Lupin Zero. But this crossover is set to premiere in 2023 exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
Does this mean one event might be teased in the other? For example, will Lupin Zero also become an Amazon Prime Video exclusive?
October is almost over, but the news continues to grow. You can expect more details as soon as we confirm them while these projects draw nearer.
