The DanMachi Volume 18 release date is on January 24, 2023 (it was apparently delayed slightly from January 21, 2023). The English translation hasn’t been announced yet.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Volume 18 will continue the Freya Familia story arc that’s culminating in the Great Faction War.
The publisher originally announced the release window during the initial early June 2022 announcement. As of July 22, 2022, the book publisher had only stated that DanMachi Volume 18 is coming out in Winter. That time frame could have meant late Fall 2022, but it turned out to be Winter 2023 (January to March 2023).

Meanwhile, let’s delve down into what is known for certain.
Will Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Volume 18 finish the Freya Familia story arc?
The Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? (Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no ha Machigatteiru Darou ka?) light novel series is being created by author Fujino Omori and illustrator Suzuhito Yasuda.
The last time light novel readers dived down into Labyrinth City Orario, Hestia and Freya had agreed to the largest war game in history in order to resolve the fight over Bell Cranel. Here is a translated version of the official story summary for DanMachi Volume 18:
The White Fairy swears. Loyalty dedicated to the goddess.
Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? 18
The black fairy engraves. Just that thought.
The dwarf weeps. Four regrets are turned into strength.
The chariot advances. Cutting down everything but the goddess.
And the fierce one asks.
It is neither a dream nor sophistry, but a proof of “power”.
“He who cannot surpass himself is not worthy of saving the goddess.”
No one is wrong.
They just think of the goddess, piercing her ego and running through the unprecedented “Great War”.
So, the boy who was hurt more than anyone else told “hypocrisy” to the twilight sky.
“I promised to help that person.”
This is the story of a boy walking as written by a goddess.
A tale of a family…
Supposedly, the DanMachi Freya arc was supposed to finish in Volume 17, but the book grew so long that it was split into two light novels. (That also happened to the Overlord series, which is why Overlord Volume 18 is ending the light novel series.)
Assuming that DanMachi Volume 18 finishes the Freya/Syr story arc, it’s also predicted that the DanMachi Season 5 anime TV show will adapt light novel Volumes 15 through 18.
But writers often change their plans as new inspiration hits (or they trash and rewrite their story). And it’s possible that the Freya Familia arc could be extended by creator Omori into DanMachi Volume 19.
Why DanMachi creator Fujino Omori is taking so long to release new books
As of April 22, 2021, the books were up to DanMachi Volume 17. But to longtime fans of the book series, it’s been quite noticeable how progress on the main story has slowed.
Back in 2015, Omori released three books in a single year, but lately, the release schedule has been reduced down to one book a year at best. So what gives?
In short, the DanMachi Volume 18 release date was probably delayed since Omori has been busy working on multiple series rather than focusing on writing Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Volume 18. As such, fans of the series should probably expect to wait at least another 18 months for DanMachi Volume 19.
Presumably, the fact that DanMachi creator Omori is directly involved in the anime production of DanMachi Season 4 affects his book-writing work schedule. Once DanMachi 18 is out he’ll turn his attention to writing Sword Oratoria Volume 13. He’s also been busy with the Astrea Records novelization, and the new magical dungeon-adventure fantasy series Wistoria: Wand and Sword.
When Volume 17 was released, Omori stated that he intended for Volumes 17 and 18 to be published close together since they were originally intended on being a single volume. Besides being busy with multiple projects, it’s possible that Omori rewrote part of the story in order to properly set up the next major story arc.
Let’s just hope the Freya story arc ends with a bang in DanMachi Volume 18. Stay tuned!
