Hopefully, the seiyuu will be reprising their roles for Meisei Story Season 2 but as of now, we don’t really know anything more about the upcoming adaptation.
About the Mix: Meisei Story manga
The Mix: Meisei Story is an adaptation of the baseball-themed manga series titled MIX (ミックス) by Mitsuru Adachi, which, in itself, is a sequel to Adachi’s previous manga series Touch.
MIX has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Monthly Shōnen Sunday since May 2012. As of July 2022, the individual chapters have been collected into 19 tankōbon volumes. The series was on hiatus from May 2020 to October 2020 due to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, with new chapters having been published regularly since its comeback.
The predecessor manga series, Touch (タッチ, Tatchi) was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday from 1981 to 1986. The individual chapters have been collected into 26 tankōbon volumes. To this day, Touch remains one of the best-selling manga series, with over 100 million copies in circulation. Touch won the 1983 Shogakukan Manga Award for both shōnen and shōjo.
Touch was adapted into one of the most popular anime series of all time that ran from 1985 to 1987 in Japan. The adaptation was handled by Group TAC, the animation studio that went bankrupt in 2010 and gave birth to Diomedéa, the studio animating Isekai Yakkyoku, among other anime titles.
Touch follows twin brothers Tatsuya and Kazuya Uesugi and their neighbor Minami Asakura who strive to enter the Kōshien baseball tournament. However, Kazuya gets into a traffic accident, an occurrence that forces his brother to take over his position as an ace pitcher.
MIX takes place thirty years after the original story and follows similar aspirations of stepbrothers Tōma and Sōichirō Tachibana.
Crunchyroll describes MIX thusly:
“A new generation steps up to the plate in a moving sequel to the 1985 baseball manga, Touch. Stepbrothers Touma and Suichirou are ace players on Meisei High School’s baseball team, and thanks to them, the team may finally have a chance at returning to nationals. But little by little, a tragic legacy unfolds as the stepbrothers follow in their fathers’ footsteps.”
