The Urusei Yatsura 2022 reboot is confirmed by Fuji Creative Corporation to be broadcasting for a full year. There will be 46 episodes in total released as four cours.
What’s a “cour,” you might ask? For those unfamiliar with the lingo, a “cour” is a three-month block of TV broadcasting based on the physical seasons usually composed of 10 to 13 episodes.
In this case, Urusei Yatsura 2022 Season 2 is a split-cour anime that’s being labeled a 2nd season even though it’s Urusei Yatsura 2022 Part 3.
A “split-cour” is where a single anime season takes a multi-month break before resuming TV broadcasting.
On July 14, 2022, Crunchyroll News confirmed that the first 2 parts of “all-star” Urusei Yatsura 2022 will be released as two consecutive cours.
On December 26, 2022, HIDIVE announced that the 2nd cour will be considered to be Urusei Yatsura Season 2. However, on March 23, 2023, the official Japanese Twitter account referred to the 2024 episodes as being the real start of the 2nd season.
The Urusei Yatsura 2022 Season 1 release date was on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Thus, the first season’s finale, Urusei Yatsura Episode 11, was released on December 22, 2022.

Lum the Invader Girl Part 4 release date likely to be in 2024?
While Studio David Production, Fuju TV, and HIDIVE have officially confirmed the Urusei Yatsura Season 2 release date will be in 2024, what is unknown is the production schedule for Lum, the Invader Girl Part 4 as part of the Urusei Yatsura 2022 reboot.
The premiere time frame is mostly dependent on the production schedule of Studio David Production. Good producers will often plan for cours to be split up in order to ensure that the animation quality remains high.
We can look at how David Production handled the JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean anime as an example. The first cour was released in Japan in January 2022, whereas cour 2 came out in October 2022, and JoJo Stone Ocean Part 3 in January 2023. (Keep in mind that Netflix was internationally streaming the episodes early in December 2022.)
Based on the assumption that the Lum, the Invader Girl 2022 anime will have a similar multi-month broadcasting break, it’s predicted that the Urusei Yatsura Part 4 release date will be in 2024 and finish off the series.

In the past, a Urusei Yatsura English dub was released as a rare VHS tape in North America by AnimEigo. The original dubbed version was translated into English as Those Obnoxious Aliens, but only the first two episodes were ever dubbed.
Additionally, Animax Asia produced a Urusei Yatsura English dub in Hong Kong titled Alien Musibat. Alaskan local TV also produced its own English dub called Cosma the Invader Girl. Unfortunately, none of those episodes survived long enough to make it onto the internet.
However, in early 2021 Crunchyroll released the English dubs for the six Urusei Yatsura movies. Thus, it’s possible Crunchyroll will be producing the Urusei Yatsura 2022 English dub.

Urusei Yatsura 2022 reboot will not adapt the entire Lum, the Invader Girl manga
Urusei Yatsura is an award-winning romantic comedy manga series written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi. The manga was first serialized in Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine from 1978 to 1987.
Viz Media released the series in English in North America in the 1990s under the titles Lum and The Return of Lum. In 2019 they re-licensed the manga and began releasing 2-in-1 omnibus editions under its original title with new translations.
The Urusei Yatsura manga inspired a 195-episode TV anime series, OVA episodes, and multiple movies. The original anime TV adaptation was broadcast from October 1981 through March 1986. produced by Studio Pierrot (Episodes 1-106) and Studio DEEN (Episodes 107-195).
The Urusei Yatsura reboot was intended to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Shogakukan’s founding. Thus, Urusei Yatsura 2022 will only adapt select stories in relation to the original TV series, not the entire story.
