Bad news for the Tower of God webtoon fans… again! Namely, SIU, the manhwa author, has announced that Tower of God will be entering another hiatus, this time indefinitely.

As terrible as it may sound, the news is not wholly unexpected, seeing as SIU has been suffering from apparently serious health issues for a while now.

Back in 2020, the author took a break due to his ligaments getting “damaged and inflamed,” whereby he announced the manhwa would come back in October of the same year with chapter 486, but things weren’t that easy.

What began as a wrist pain has since turned out to be more severe, with SIU updating the fans on the developments from time to time. From what can be inferred from SIU’s notes, his ligaments seem to be continually weakening, deforming his body in the process — the condition that seems to have finally spelled doom for the popular manhwa.

Hoping SIU will find a way to get better, we can only wait for further updates.

About the Tower of God manhwa

Tower of God (Sin-ui Tap) is a manhwa (Korean comic) released as a webtoon by South Korean author SIU (sometimes also spelled ad S.I.U., which stands for “Slave in Utero,” according to the fandom), whose full name is Lee Jong-hui. The manhwa started in June 2010 and has been serialized via the Naver Webtoon platform since. The individual chapters have been collected into nine volumes (as of March 2022) and published by Young Com.

Tower of God is the first story set in the Talse Uzer universe, which is based on the premise that “the world comprises several tales at its centre and these tales persist as unchangeable records,” per SIU’s explanation. Simply put, the future is set and cannot be changed whatsoever.

Tower of God got an official English translation by Line Webtoon in July 2014 and has since expanded into a franchise. One manhwa-inspired mobile game has been developed and there’s also an anime TV series (refer to the trailer at the end of the article).
