The official website for the upcoming TV anime adaptation of Makoto Ojiro’s (Neko no Otera no Chion-san) Insomniacs after School manga (君は放課後インソムニ, Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia) has released the first key visual and promotional video.
The Insomniacs after School anime release date is in 2023, with the precise date yet to be disclosed.
The Insomniacs after School TV anime series is directed by Yūki Ikeda at Liden Films (Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko: Everything Flows), with Rintarō Ikeda (Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It) in charge of the script and Yuki Fukuda (Plunderer) in charge of character design. Yuki Hayashi (Haikyu!!) is composing the soundtrack.
The TV anime series was first officially announced in January 2022 (although a special animation promotional video for the manga had been unveiled in October 2021). A live-action film adaptation was also announced at the time, with no updates since.
Goings-on to commemorate the upcoming Insomniacs after School TV anime series release
The project is abuzz with excitement and several happenings commemorating the Insomniacs after School TV anime series announcement have been launched.
One of them is a collaboration with the 81st Nanao Port Festival where the anime visuals and leaflets will be distributed. The festival will take place in Nanao City, Ishikawa Prefecture on July 17, 2022.
Another one is a Starscape photo contest (Astro Arts) that is held jointly with the Hoshi Navi magazine. Details regarding the application for the contest will be announced at a later date — for the time being, there’s just a brief Twitter announcement.
Insomniacs after School TV anime series: what we know so far
Apart from the promotional video and the key visual, concept art for the two main characters — Ganta and Isaki — has also been revealed. It has also been disclosed that Gen Sato will voice Ganta and Konomi Tamura — Isaki.
About Insomniacs after School manga
The manga is set in Noto City, Ishikawa Prefecture, and follows two insomniac schoolmates, Ganta Nakami and Isaki Magari. The two meet in the school’s storage room that used to be the observatory and form a bond.
The Insomniacs after School manga has been serialized in Weekly Big Comic Spirits since 2019 and is still ongoing.
In 2019, Japanese rock band Macaroni Enpitsu created a music video for their single “Enshin” featuring the Insomniacs after School manga art.
