Jujutsu Kaisen 0 trailer and story summary
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 release date in Japan was on December 24, 2021. The timing of the premiere date wasn’t coincidental since most of the story events in the manga take place on December 24th.
The film’s story adapts the Jujutsu Kaisen 0: the Tokyo Metropolitan Curse Technical School manga. Creator Gege Akutami originally created this story as a one-shot manga, but then it was retroactively relabeled as a prequel to the main manga series by calling it the Cursed Child Arc.
The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 movie will be adapting only four manga chapters. While that doesn’t sound like much, Volume 0 is 200 pages long, which is 8 pages longer than Volume 1. Therefore, the movie runtime is much longer than an OVA episode.
Jujutsu Kaisen 0 tells the story of Yuta Okkotsu, a victim of a Special Grade Curse. This character is mentioned by Gojo in the anime and since Yuta plays a role in the Shibuya Incident arc it makes sense for the movie to adapt the story before the anime TV series reaches that story arc.
Without getting into spoilers, Jujutsu Kaisen’s Cursed Child arc largely revolves around Yuta feeling responsible for his actions and trying to regain confidence since he feels that he doesn’t deserve to be alive.
If you want more details, here is the official Crunchyroll Jujutsu Kaisen 0 story summary:
When they were children, Rika Orimoto was killed in a traffic accident right before the eyes of her close friend, Yuta Okkotsu.
“It’s a promise. When we both grow up, we’ll get married.”
Rika became an apparition, and Yuta longed for his own death after suffering under her curse,
but the greatest Jujutsu sorcerer, Satoru Gojo, welcomed him into Jujutsu High.
There Yuta meets his classmates, Maki Zen’in, Toge Inumaki, and Panda, and finally finds his own determination.
“I want the confidence to say it’s okay that I’m alive!”
“While I’m at Jujutsu High, I’ll break Rika-chan’s curse.”
Meanwhile, the vile curse user, Suguru Geto, who was expelled from the school for massacring ordinary people, appears before Yuta and the others.
“This coming December 24th, we shall carry out the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons.”
While Geto advocates for creating a paradise for only jujutsu sorcerers, he unleashes a thousand curses upon Shinjuku and Kyoto to exterminate all non-sorcerers.
Will Yuta be able to stop Geto in the end?
And what will happen to breaking Rika’s curse…?
